Later, he published a book which provided methods of exercise that became the basis for today's modern aerobics programs.

Aerobic Exercise

In a literal sense, "aerobic" means "with oxygen". It is the use of oxygen in energy production carried out, as the muscles.

Aerobic exercise is any kind of physical exercise performed at moderate levels of intensity for a period of time. In this exercise, oxygen is used to "burn" fats and sugar to produce adenosine triphosphate, which is the main carrier of energy at the cellular level.

In order to burn fats completely during a physical exercise, it needs oxygen. Moderation is necessary in an aerobic exercise allows the muscle cells continually supplied with enough oxygen.

Examples of aerobic activity will include running long distances with moderate speed. (Sprinting is not an aerobic exercise.) Playing tennis is just considered an aerobic activity because the action is near constant. Golf and doubles, tennis activities, however, are not considered aerobic because of their vacations more frequently.


Gymnastics is a general term used for the exercises to combine some elements of "aerobic exercise, stretching, and strength training" with the main goal of increasing one's personal fitness (flexibility, cardiovascular fitness and muscular strength).

Popularized by celebrities and famous gurus exercise, aerobic exercises are usually performed with music and with a group. Usually, there is an instructor who directs the movements and cuing of changes in exercise movements.

Aerobics today has evolved into something that is performed with different routines that involve a number of dance-like movements. Also, aerobics classes are divided into different levels of intensity and complexity.

Gyms and exercise centers offer a wide variety of aerobics classes for all. These classes are taught by a certified instructor. Sometimes, they have specialty areas and levels associated with the guidelines.

Anaerobic Exercise

Anaerobic ("without oxygen") exercise is the opposite of aerobic (with oxygen) exercise. Both words, aerobic and anaerobic, and refer to energy that are used during a physical exercise.

An anaerobic exercise usually has to do with the initial phase of exercise, or a short burst of intense exertion, where glycogen or sugar is consumed without oxygen.

These exercises are characterized by growth rate or with great effort. Anaerobic exercise burns more calories that require a greater demand for oxygen that are not available in sufficient quantities for cells to burn fat.

In anaerobic strenuous exercises like sprinting or lifting heavy weights, we develop an "oxygen debt" to the body. The muscles will then switch to burning mainly carbohydrates (95%), a fuel that burns quickly and does not need oxygen.

Anaerobic exercise increases the body's metabolic rate. This, in turn, burns fat even if everyone used the exercise to the body's carbohydrates.
